Golf Australia/AIS National Squad member Julia Boland has secured a wire-to-wire win in the Australian Women’s Stroke Play Championship at Brisbane Golf Club.

Boland who has been working with her coach Glenn Whittle for three years shot rounds of 70-73-72-75 to finish at 2-over par and three strokes ahead of South Australia’s Ebony Heard who also finished with a final round 75 and 5-over for the championship.

It was a sweet victory for the Tamworth Golf Club local who has already claimed the Lake Macquarie Amateur and Victorian Stroke Play Championship in 2009.

Boland said she was delighted with her win.

“I’m very pumped- it’s an honour to get my name alongside the other names on this trophy,” Boland said.

She also thanked her caddy who missed her own club championships to be on Boland’s bag.

Earlier in the week, Boland said the course layout was the type that “makes little mistakes look like big errors” but she held firm for the wire-to-wire victory.

“I think I showed good mental strength when things went a pear-shaped and was generally very patient throughout the four rounds.”

Boland now joins an honour roll which includes Karrie Webb and Sarah Kemp.

Congratulations to Julia Boland who today won the Riversdale Cup in Victoria. Only one month ago Julia won the Lake Macquarie Amateur Championship. Both tournaments are national ranking events which depict Julia's current level of golf

Julia and I have worked hard on her game over the past 18 months, to be honest even the last two weeks, but her greatest strentgh as with any successful sports person is her attitute and determination.

Julia is studying Exercise Science at the Sydney University and graduated from the New South Wales Institute of Sport Golf Program after a three year scholarship in 2007.

NSWIS Workshop at Magenta Shores

The NSWIS Squad and I recently spent 3 days at Magenta Shores on the NSW Central Coast. Our focus was on short game and it seemed to be well received by the group. The golf course at Magenta Shores was a challenge for even our players but they loved the layout

Atunyote Golf Course, Turning Stone Resort - New York

During my trip to America recently I played golf at several great courses, one special course was The Atunyote private course at Turning Stone where the $6 million dollar USPGA tour event "The Turning Stone Championship" is being held from September 20-23

I also visited Bethpage Black, Shinnecock Hills and Rockaway River Country Club

Back from The Pelz School

I am back from my 8 day trip to America to attend the Pelz Short Game School. It was a great experience and I know that the golfers I coach will benefit from this trip greatly

Here is a photo of me and Perfy the Perfect putter. Well, he has a straight putting stroke, so I still believe you need to make a decision and test whether you are a perfy type putter with the putterface staying square or whether you use a swing path that is rounded with the face feeling like it opens and closes slightly during the stroke
